what is it like to work at vmware
VMware is on the 36th position of Glassdoor's Best Places to work in 2020 globally, a report that came out this week and made the states proud, once again. Unsurprisingly, VMware had featured for years on - All-time Companies to Work For list, of different surveys, but sustaining it consistently, is a great thing. Before I get too lazy during holidays, I thought of sharing glimpses of how the year was for me traveling places for work, and the VMware feel. To describe it in one word – "thrilling". Information technology'due south only been 20 months that I'g here.
Nosotros started the CY'19 with Applications Platform Architects meet for our HBR. We are an APJ field squad that focuses on Customer's Application delivery strategies with VMware products, more specifically we work on Cloud-native and Kubernetes solutions with OSS and Customs participation, do Agile and DevOps techniques to aid our Customers become a "software-defined" Enterprise with VMware.
The place was carefully chosen, so it'south convenient for all the members – Taiwan, in the Far-east. My family joined me for a brusque vacation, after HBR. We certain were lost-in-translation outside Taipei, but Taiwan is a cracking urban center, with cheerful people and a very welcoming civilization, not to forget their mastery of electronics. Pecking Duck, HotPot and Death by Dumplings for the taste buds.
On the Far-westward, we started the FY'20 at Vegas with a kick-ass kick-off, a scale which I'd never seen before. While our leaders were awesome every bit always, it was Pecker McDermott, who recently stepped down equally SAP'southward CEO, who stole the show. He stood tall with his inspiring speech, as he talked through a few inflection points in his life and business. James Corden, from the Late Late Testify, joked most how techies would work hard all twelvemonth circular and make enough to come up and splash out at Vegas. That indeed was just a joke, every bit VMware had enough to buy some great companies this year. It'southward a practiced sign too, of corporate prosperity.
Past this time, VMware had completed the acquisition of Heptio, we met for the CNA Tech Height at Palo Alto – Leadership, PSO, GSS, APA, SE, TPM, CRE, KIT/KAT, and friends from Mumbai. Wow! pretty much the entire tech fraternity. Great tech sessions, roadmaps, positioning, competitive, etc. and pinnacle information technology all – a Hackathon. My team created a simple Sunobuoy plugin for Kubernetes that checks for the max limits of NSX-T objects. Too, I flew on an Airbus 380 Double Decker. Yous don't get to exercise that every twenty-four hours: -)
Bombay is where all activity happens. I met Joe Beda here and was lucky to spend picayune time betwixt Client meetings, hotels and airports, navigating the traffic, and potholes (It had rained profusely). TBH, that gave me a few more moments to know him, while notwithstanding on the roads.
I tweeted earlier – "It's not merely his genius, but the humbleness and kindness that amazes and inspires me, and perhaps the world!".
Joe introduced Tanzu and its Build, Run, Manage story to many Customers, and they were supercharged. Witnessing all this firsthand, I sure felt very lucky. I hope adjacent time Joe visits on leisure, as he promised, it volition exist away from the hustle-bustle, to explore and enjoy India.
Then came, vForum, the minified VMworld; and VMwareDay Bharat, the minified vForum. I was tasked to run a KubeAcademy training at Mumbai. Nosotros saw 75 Customers participating in the Foundation hands-on grooming, and boy! at this fourth dimension, with feedbacks in, we tin can say we did quite well. We hope to see Kubernetes go the next Java, and the ubiquitous layer of infrastructure that will span the gap of Dev and Ops, so they can height into each other'due south world to help evangelize applications and software – faster, smarter and cheaper.
We accept a great Tanzu-Tee Apps story that we showcased in the technical keynote demos of Build -> Run -> Connect -> Protect -> Manage, and Experience. The girls had done a fabled job at Bombay demoing them and raising the bar. Pairing with the SE Managers, I got an opportunity to present the Build and Run part of the demo in rest of the metros to a packed audience, I think upwards of 250 each. I too got to work on some great Client apply-cases, demos and pitches on the day job, through the year, some challenging, but all interesting.
We all work very hard, I'm certain across VMware, and every day is a new twenty-four hours hither. Sometimes nosotros stretch, beyond the call of duty, just however, experience less tired, and that is because of the environment, peers, leaders and a civilization of innovation, that makes you lot feel – important! and that's why VMware e'er appears on the best companies to work for, list.
Cheers for reading, and happy vacations and a corking new year 2020!
